Wyandotte, MI: Waterfront Living Without the Waterfront Price Tag

Erik Wright

Managing Broker & Founder

Wyandotte is Downriver’s best-known walkable city: a historic downtown on Biddle Avenue, riverfront parks on the Detroit River, and neighborhoods of older homes at prices well below most walkable suburbs in Oakland County. Buyers choose it for river access, character homes and a downtown full of local restaurants and events. It’s one of the few places in Metro Detroit where a modest budget can still buy a home near the water.

What it’s like to live in Wyandotte

A real riverfront downtown

Downtown Wyandotte runs along Biddle Avenue, a block from the Detroit River, with locally owned restaurants, bars, shops and a busy calendar of events, including the long-running Wyandotte Street Art Fair each summer. Bishop Park and other riverfront green spaces give residents walking paths, fishing spots and river views.

City-owned utilities

Wyandotte is one of a handful of Michigan cities with its own municipal utility, Wyandotte Municipal Services, which provides electric and water service to residents. Ask about current rates and service when comparing total monthly housing costs. Details are on the City of Wyandotte site.

Historic homes

Neighborhoods near downtown and the river include Victorian and early-1900s homes, many lovingly restored. Farther from the river, brick bungalows and ranches offer more affordable entry points.
